Central Region may be in the Heartland of the United States, but people from ethnic groups around the globe have gathered here.
We have a number of ethnic churches in cities around the region- Hispanics, Liberians, Burmese, Jamaican, and Congolese. Some of these churches share facilities with Anglo congregations while others have grown to secure their own facilities.
Paul and Vivian Canfield currently serve as our Ethnic Ministries Directors. After retiring as Global Missions Directors for Open Bible Churches in 2007, Paul and Vivian took a short hiatus to rest. Paul had a stirring in his heart to work in missions from a stateside perspective. They were launched as Missionaries to Minneapolis in 2008. They met with pastors and church leaders in an effort to serve the various ethnic groups that had arrived in this “Gateway City”. In 2011, our Hispanic Ministry Directors moved out of the region and we combined the Hispanic Ministries and Missionaries to Minneapolis into one called Ethnic Ministries.
Pastor Ricardo Ponce, senior pastor of Iglesia Pentecostes la Biblia Abierta in Sioux City, IA, is serving on the East Sector Leadership Council of Hispanic Ministries for Open Bible Churches.
We are excited about the changing face of the region as we expand the harvest by embracing and empowering ethnic leaders to reach their culture and beyond.
